It was confusing to know when I should have read this book in the series， and I wish there was more clarity on this （especially for any other readers new to the series。） I was under the impression that the novellas here didn't really matter to understanding the whole plot， so I figured that if I enjoyed the series， I'd come back for this one。 That is exactly what I did and I really looked forward to it since Kingdom of Ash left me feeling heartbroken and empty， and I just wanted more TOG content It was confusing to know when I should have read this book in the series， and I wish there was more clarity on this （especially for any other readers new to the series。） I was under the impression that the novellas here didn't really matter to understanding the whole plot， so I figured that if I enjoyed the series， I'd come back for this one。 That is exactly what I did and I really looked forward to it since Kingdom of Ash left me feeling heartbroken and empty， and I just wanted more TOG content。 I've found some people recommending to read this after Crown of Midnight and I honestly don't know if I would have preferred to read this before everything because while it does really help add meaning to some of the more detailed parts of the story， I also feel like I wouldn't have fully comprehended how much it all meant that early on in the series。 Regardless， this compilation is a treat for any TOG fan。 。。。more

I read this book and was super disappointed - I read it as the first book of the throne of glass series！ I’m currently on crown of midnight， going to start it now！ But was so impressed with the throne of glass book！！But assassins blade was draining。。 had to force myself to finish because I knew this series is great

I actually really like this book and think that this is a MUST READ in order to truly understand Celaena’s story and why she is the way she is in the rest of the series。 I think that she is foolish at times， but mostly got a good head on that shoulder and too loyal， too upright， and too young。 Also， Sam Cortland is my MVP！ :）

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 The beginning was so so good！！ I remember reading about how she was in the desert in Crown of Midnight and wanting to know what happened。 The beginning was definitely better than the end since I knew what was going to happen to Sam。 I liked reading this book after the first 2， but I feel like I would’ve enjoyed reading this both ways。 More things would have made sense this way。 I’m excited to see Celeanas next encounter with arobyn tho！ Overall pretty good！

All of the novellas were so well-woven together and it was absolutely heartbreaking to have those glimpses into Celaena’s past。 I definitely recommend reading the prequel after the first couple of books to really connect with the characters and the story！
